Station Cove Falls Trail
A nice pre-spring hike with a little bit of history, a beautiful waterfall and lots of early wildflowers. The trail was mostly dry and in fair condition. After briefly visiting the Oconee Station Historic Station, we proceed up the Oconee Connector Trail and then back down to Station Cove Falls for lunch. Much of the Station Cove Falls Trail was dominated by numerous Red and Yellow Toad Shade Trillium. There were also several varieties of other early wildflowers like Bloodroot, Halberd-leaved Violet and the Common Blue Violet. While not blooming, Mayapples were beginning to sprout. Station Cove Falls . . . really beautiful! Today's Hikers (L-R): Lynn, Roger, Shelia, Jack, Ken, Cutie Pie, Pam, Mike, Vic, Renee & Jenny Another nice place to hike with good trails and facilities. Oconee Station. . .I never knew. Quite a history, too. Somebody is taking care of this massive, multi-trunked Hemlock. Beautiful! Headed out across the dam of the pond near the historic site. Lots of these Red Toadshade Trillium today. A some Yellow Toadshade Trillium, too. Top: Rue-Anemone; LR: Green & Gold; LL: Bloodroot Halberd-leaved Violet & Common Blue Violet Even some May Apples sprouting through the leaves. First sighting of Station Cove Falls. Lunch on the rocks below the falls. Too bad we didn't have time for a nap. A last look at Station Cove Falls on our way out. Thanks for sharing this site Pam!
