Stonewall Falls Mountain Bike Trail Loop
near Tiger, GA
This was another pleasant weather day with mid-60's to low 70's temperatures and sunny skies. The trail was dry and in very good condition. There was just one, very short washed-out trail section midway through the hike and no blowdowns. Both wet crossings were cheerfully completed without anyone falling. The second wet crossing could also be made by some rock-hopping just 10 to 20 feet downstream. Stonewall Falls was pretty despite a fairly low flow of water. Just a few wildflowers were seen along our path. This continues to be an easy hike, but the access road to the trailhead is still poorly maintained by the county.

Stonewall Falls by Jane Voss Today's Hikers (L-R): Jane V., Lynn, Bettye, Matt & Toby, Claudia, Heather & Toby, Ken, Joan, Jenny, Mike, Jane H., Charles, Jack, John & Angela. A pre-hike chat session, but it looks like the two-Tobys (trail-dogs) are more anxious to get started than our 15 hikers. It's a short walk up Forest Service Rd 20 to the trailhead. It's a mostly shallow uphill walk for the first half of the hike on a really nice trail. Some of the first wildflowers we saw. Jane Voss caught this picture of the sun shining through the pine forest. This Gentian was spotted as we headed down through a washed out section of the trail. Indian pipes are always an eye-catcher. However, this Lion's Mane mushroom spotted by Heather is the "Fungus of the Day." Heather Wall took these pics of the first crossing of Stonewalls Creek. The recent rains have supported the growth of a variety of fungi. Jack Treadman led the way across some rocks to avoid a second wet crossing, but Jenny decided to get her feet wet rather than slip on the rocks. Another view of Stonewall Falls.
