Tabor Falls

It was a cool, but cloudy day for a brief hike just after Christmas. This is a trail and falls we have not been to before. As noted by other hikers, the first section of the hike is intentionally covered with logging debris, but enough walking traffic has created a somewhat easier path through the debris. Thereafter, the trail becomes much easier, but requiring two shallow, rock-hopping creek crossings. One can access the upper ledge of the falls, and then further down the trail, you can reach the base of the falls using some ropes strung down the steep embankment. Today the mostly dry leaves made the decent a bit difficult, but possible. Later on our return out of the base of the falls, we found a second set of ropes close to the base of the falls allowing what seemed to be an easier path up to the trail. The falls are actually quite beautiful. Mark Oleg notes in the Georgia Waterfall Index, " This beautiful, single tier, 50-foot high waterfall is the first of three waterfalls (from the top) on an unnamed tributary of the Middle Fork Broad River, flowing into the river from the west at the north end of Brown Bottoms." He also comments, "Consider hiking an alternate unmarked trail to Tabor Falls that begins along FR 191 (Georgia Mountain Orchard Road) at 34.534684, -83.461247.
