A view of Fontana Lake from the AT. Today's hikers (L-R): Terre, Don, Mike, Jenny, Beth, Heather & John Getting started on the Benton MacKaye Trail. Really curious configurations of the many vines seen on the Benton MacKaye Trail (BMT). The BMT uses white diamond blazes . . . and even provided this nice bench along this section of the trail. Wildflowers along the Benton MacKaye Trail. Non-blooming plants along the BMT (Clockwise from 10 o'clock)): Summer grape, Striped maple, Plantainleaf sedge & Maidenhair fern A hornet's nest spotted along the BMT An interesting large, abandoned water tank along the BMT. Headed up the AT from the marina. This black fungi growing at intervals up this tree. Lots of these huckleberries along the AT just north of the marina. John and Beth on the AT. Come on Mike, get with it! Left: Berries on False Solomon's seal; Right: fruit on Sweet shrub. Yes, there really is a Fontana Hilton AT trail shelter. . . pretty nice, eh? Heck, you don't get charging stations at some hotels! More views of Fontana Lake from the AT. Group photo on the west side of Fontana Dam . . . Oop! Where's Terre? Views of Fontana Dam. Guess they don't call on The Little Dutch Boy" anymore to plug holes in the dam. Lunch at the Wildwood Bar and Grill . . . recommended!
