Jackrabbit Mtn Central, Highpoint and Burrell's Cove Loops
near Hiawassee, GA.
This was a very easy hike on a cool, sunny morning with a trail in very good condition even though well-used by bikers. There were just a few spots with clear views of Lake Chatuge suggesting this hike might be better in the late fall or winter. There were not a lot of wildflowers either. Despite not being a scenic hike, it was good to be on the trail with our hiking friends.

A view of Lake Chatuge looking east. Today's Hikers (L-R): Shelia, Lynn, Edwin, Jenny, Matt, Beth, Mike, Vic, Gerald, Jane & Ken with Squirt (L) and Cutie Pie (R). Just a tad bit of fog at the trailhead this morning. Typical trail conditions. The contorted path of the branches on this still living tree was amazing. Not many wildflowers today, but still nice to see. This large mushroom with a snail at its stalk was interesting. Almost makes you think this tree is pregnant. Trail dogs Squirt and Cutie Pie just "people watching." More of the few clear views of Lake Chatuge . . . the lake level always seems to be low when we visit. We did hike through a section with a large number of Maidenhair Ferns. Deer and racoon (I think?) tracks on a sandy portion of the exposed shoreline. Headed back. A cluster of Sourwood trees showing off their early fall colors.
