A very nice, late Spring day for a hike. The trails were in fair condition with the usual wet spots along the way. The bridge at 2.3 miles has been replaced. Hooray! A large variety of wild flowers today including a good variety of Trillium. The Trilliums were not as extensive as we saw last year . . . timing, weather, other?

Kimsey Creek . . . not big, but it is pretty! Today's hikers (L-R): Mike, Jane, Rich, Jenny, Ray, Renee, Ken, Edwin, Jim, Vic, Mike Jones, Matt & Squirt in front. We start by crossing over the always beautiful Nantahala River. Some things seem to never change like this log bridge at the start of the hike. Vic! . . . to the left! Lots of wildflowers today: Clockwise from 10 o'clock: Bluets, Blisterwort, Red Baneberry & Buttercup More wildflowers (clockwise from 10 o'clock): Baneberry, Daisy Fleebane, Carolina Vetch, Golden Alexanders Nice trail in some sections. A walk right along Kimsey Creek in some sections, And a bit boggy and rooty in other sections. Still more wildflowers (clockwise from 10 o'clock): Wood Betony, Mayapple, Wood Stonecrop & Perfoliate Bellwort Anyone know what this is ??? It's always nice to find a clump of Jack-in-the-Pulpit. Kimsey Creek is a pleasant sight along most of the trail. Hey look! They replaced the bridge. Squirt likes it, too. Wildflowers (From the left clockwise): Foamflower, Solomon's Seal & White Clintonia A short break before returning. Okay, here's the Trillium. I better get these right. White Trillium White Trillium "Stinking Benjamin" ??? Red Trillium ??? Trillium Painted Trillium thanks to Rich & Ray Interesting fungus on these trees. Perhaps False Lily-of-the-Valley ??? Renee stood on her head to get this view of Trillium!
