Opossum Creek Waterfall Trail
near Long Creek, SC
What a beautiful day for a hike with sunny skies and cool, fall temperatures. The trail was in very good condition and we encountered no blowdowns. Despite the 800+ feet of climbing on the return from visiting Opossum Creek Falls, the incline is only steep during the first quarter of the return trail. There were no significant wildflowers, but we did see some display of fall colors in the overhead cover. Overall this was a fairly easy hike on a very nice day.

Beautiful Opossum Creek Trail Today's Hikers (L-R) Alicia, Trushna, Shri, Mike, Shelia, Matt, Jenny, Allyson, Jack, Lynn, Ken & Cutie Pie and Vic. Not shown: Angela, Stephanie & Loretta. Just parked along the road today. The trailhead is just back on the road from our parking area. Going down! Fall colors in the overhead trees. You've got to scramble down the hill off the trail to get even this glimpse of Camp Creek Falls. . . heard more than seen! Red Maple leaves and Partridge Berries make for an nice miniature fall setting. Blue Wood Aster Views down and up the Chattooga River at the bottom of our hike. Such clear blue skies today! Something has been munching on this very large mushroom. Headed up the trail to Opossum Creek Falls. Gotta do some rock hopping to get close to Opossum Creek Falls in the background. Our hikers getting a closer look at the falls. Trushna seems to be checking out the sky? The low fall sun reflecting off the water and streaming through the trees . . . just beautiful! Even just the water flow is facinating. This tree with an extensive root system over the rocks is determined to survive. A large Beech Tree, also with a complex root system. Cutie Pie . . ."If no one is looking, I'll check out this hole." On the way back, a final view of fall colors and a massive Poplar Tree.
